Established in 2005 by International and Olympic fencers Linda Strachan and Pierre Harper, Newham Swords Fencing Club has quickly gained recognition in the fencing community for its commitment to developing young fencers, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, into successful competitors.
**Who We Serve**
- Open to youngsters aged 6 and up from Newham and surrounding boroughs.
- Adult beginner classes available once a week.
**Key Activities**
- **Coached Sessions**: Fencing sessions for young people aged 16-19 years in various youth and community centers aimed at combating gun and knife crime.
- **Holiday Sessions**: Free fencing sessions during school holidays for children.
- **Referee Training**: Four fencers have passed a grade 4 referee exam and serve as referees at junior national events.
- **Piste-Side Assistance**: Twelve fencers are qualified to assist referees in competitions.
