In very specific circumstances we may be able to provide some extra financial help.

If Housing Benefit or Universal Credit does not cover all of your net rent and you are still having difficulty paying, you may be considered for a discretionary housing payment.

Before applying

Discretionary Housing Payment applications can only be considered if you have an existing Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (housing costs) claim.

In special circumstances you may be entitled to a discretionary housing payment if there is a shortfall between the Housing Benefit or Universal Credit you receive and your eligible rent.

If you are applying for a Discretionary Housing Payment as you are affected by Under Occupancy Rules, which came into effect on 1 April 2013, we would request that you contact your landlord to discuss downsizing to a smaller property before submitting your form.

You will need to provide evidence to support your application. This should be provided within one calendar month of the date you submit your application.
Failure to provide supporting evidence within one calendar month will result in your application being turned down. 

You will need provide evidence which includes two months of full bank statements for any accounts held by yourself and any partner that lives with you, your tenancy agreement, evidence of any rent arrears including an up to date rent account statement, evidence of income, evidence of debts, evidence of medical conditions.
