Healthwise at Kendal Leisure Centre is a supportive programme designed to help people in our community become more physically active, especially those living with long-term health conditions. Our Healthwise activity referral scheme is dedicated to keeping you fit and healthy, whether you’re managing a health condition or simply seeking guidance and support.
How it works:
- Speak to your healthcare professional to get a referral to our programme.
- We offer ESCAPE PAIN courses in partnership with the NHS, focusing on back, hip, and knee pain. These free courses run for six weeks, with twice-weekly sessions to support people living with arthritic conditions.
- Our gentle exercise classes include aqua sessions, chair-based yoga, and gentle circuits. The Better Health Team will help you choose the activities that best suit your personal goals.
- The Physical Activity on Referral Scheme (PARS) is a comprehensive 12-week programme featuring one-to-one assessments, individually tailored activity plans, and behaviour change support for lasting impact.
Who can benefit?
- People with high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, asthma, circulatory or respiratory diseases, depression/anxiety, or arthritis.
- Anyone looking for affordable, tailored support to improve their health and wellbeing.
Our commitment: We work in partnership with healthcare professionals to break down barriers to physical activity and tackle health inequalities. Our team provides independently tailored opportunities for patients with existing medical conditions to join a specifically designed physical activity programme at an affordable rate.

Please speak with your Healthcare Professional if you are interested in Healthwise as they must refer you. If your Healthcare Professional is not registered with Healthwise then please contact the Better Health Team at your local Better Leisure Centre. If your Healthcare Professional feels you will benefit from Healthwise, they will need to complete a referral form and send it to the Better Health Team who will then be in touch to screen your referral and arrange your Initial Consultation.
