Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland's Dementia Support Service for Leicester & Leicestershire offers practical, person-centred support for people living with dementia and their carers. The service provides a range of ways to access information, advice and assistance, tailored to individual needs and circumstances.
What’s on offer:
- Personalised One-to-One Support: Tailored information and advice delivered in the way that suits you – in your home, at a Dementia Support Clinic, by phone or online. The team helps you plan, explore strategies to live well with dementia, provides short-term emotional support, and supports access to other health, social care and community services.
- Post Diagnostic Information Sessions: A mix of online and face-to-face sessions every week, covering understanding dementia, practical strategies to manage symptoms, planning ahead and details of local services.
- Memory Cafes and Social Groups: The service runs Memory Cafes, social groups and peer groups, with activities such as walking, gardening and trips out, helping to reduce isolation and build connections.
- Informal Carer Learning: Learning opportunities for informal carers on topics like understanding dementia, strategies to support the person, managing money, available support, planning for the future and looking after yourself. Ad hoc sessions cover topics such as First Aid, Mindfulness and Moving & Handling.
