Disability Assist provides tailored support, information, and advocacy for disabled people, shaped by those with lived experience of disability.
Our services are designed to empower disabled individuals to live independently and confidently. We offer:
- Information, guidance, and advice: Get help on a wide range of topics, including independent living, accessible transport, housing, aids and equipment, and recruiting personal assistants.
- Peer support: Speak with advisors who are disabled themselves and understand the daily challenges you may face. We offer both one-off and ongoing support, providing unbiased advice and practical solutions.
- Advocacy: We help you understand your rights in health and social welfare, express your views and needs, and get involved in decisions that affect you. Our advocates support self-advocacy, giving you the tools and information to speak up for yourself.
- Benefits support: Navigating the benefits system can be confusing. We guide you through schemes like Personal Independent Payments, Employment and Support Allowance, Attendance Allowance, and Access to Work. We also assist with form filling, assessment preparation, and the tribunal process.
How it works:
- Our team of advisors will discuss your needs and provide bespoke support, listening to your unique situation and offering information in the format that suits you best.
- Support is available by telephone, email, post, face-to-face appointment, or outreach sessions.
- If we can't help directly, we'll signpost you to another organisation that can.
All our Information Officers have lived experience of disability, ensuring understanding and empathy in every interaction.
If you or someone you know could benefit from our support, please contact us using our referral form or reach out directly.
