Rising Sun’s specialist counselling service supports children and young people aged 5 to 18 who have experienced, witnessed, or have trauma linked to domestic abuse in Canterbury, Ashford, and Folkestone & Hythe.
Our highly-qualified counsellors provide a safe, trauma-informed space for young people to process their experiences through talking, activities, or play. Each child’s journey is unique, and our approach is tailored to their individual needs.
- 12 weekly, one-to-one sessions (30-60 minutes each), with flexibility to extend if needed.
- Sessions can take place in schools, children’s centres, community spaces, or online—wherever is most comfortable and least disruptive for the young person.
- We work closely with local schools and safeguarding teams to ensure a secure and supportive environment.
What young people gain:
- Space and permission to talk about challenges and break the stigma of domestic abuse.
- Psychoeducational support around healthy relationships, trauma, and emotional regulation.
- Reduced anxiety and distress, improved sleep and concentration, increased confidence and self-esteem.
- Building trusted relationships and support networks.
- Empowerment—showing young people that their voice matters.
