Enjoy a picturesque walk, an exhilarating bike ride or a delicious treat from Grounds Cafe. Located north of Corby in the Midlands, Fineshade Wood provides a picturesque setting for your next adventure.

Activities at Fineshade Wood:

Adventurous play facilities are for all the family - You are never too old for building dens or playing hide-and-seek in the woods, but for those a little younger The Oak Leaf purpose-built play area is close to the Visitor Centre, café and toilets. If you are a little more adventurous then seek out our tree house which you will find in the woods.

Walking trails at Fineshade Wood - Venture deep into the woodland at Fineshade Wood. With an easy access trail and two longer trails to choose from, there is something for everyone.

5k Running Trail - Set on surfaced forest roads, the 5k running route covers mostly level terrain with the occasional gentle slope. This route is shared with other users including cyclists and horse riders. Follow the brown waymarkers.

Caravan and motorhome club at Fineshade Wood - Extend your woodland adventure with an unforgettable nights stay in the forest. At Fineshade Wood, we have a Caravan and Motorhome Club which is open to members and non-members alike. Just visit the Caravan and Motorhome Club website for more information and to make a booking.

Family cycle trail - circular, family friendly route - If you are looking for a safe, off-road and family friendly cycle route then come to Fineshade Woods. The easiest of our routes is five miles which starts and finishes at the top of the main car park. There are some gentle-to-moderate hilly sections which are easy to take at your own pace. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, have a go at the slightly more challenging 'Blue' graded taster sections.

Gruffalo Orienteering - fun family map reading challenge - Try our fun, navigational challenge at Fineshade Wood using a simple map to find twelve Gruffalo markers hidden in the deep, dark wood. If you're feeling competitive, choose to run, walk (or skip!) the course against the clock. Before you begin the trail, pick up a Gruffalo orienteering leaflet with a certificate and map for just £1.50. 

Gruffalo Sculptures at Fineshade Woods - If you venture into the deep dark wood, you may bump into Gruffalo and his friends from Julia Donaldson's classic story. 

Horse riding trail - circular route through Fineshade and beyond - We welcome horses and riders alike at Fineshade Wood, where our family-friendly five mile route takes you through a large part of the forest. Forest Activity Bag - Why not hire one of our Forest Activity Bags?  Explore the forest as a family and discover more about how it’s used and what animals live here. Each bag is suitable for children aged 5+ years (with adult help) and contains some fantastic tools and instructions so you can go on your own woodland adventure. Head to the Visitor Information Centre to hire your bag today.

Picnics at Fineshade Wood - Enjoy a tasty treat in the forest at one of our beautiful picnic areas, just bring along good food and company! There is a seating area in the courtyard of the visitor centre and a picnic area next to each of the play areas.

Join Superworm and friends on their brand-new adventure at Fineshade Wood - Discover the small but mighty creatures in the much-loved story and learn about the everyday heroic feats of minibeasts in the forest. The new self-led trail features brightly illustrated panels and a trail pack full of fun activities, including your very own mask. Set off with Superworm and become a forest superhero!

The Smelters' walk - short, circular family friendly walk - If you are a first time visitor to Fineshade Woods, this trail is a great place to start your exploration.  If you are interested in history, you will pass through an area where iron was once smelted in the forest. Starting at the top of the car park, The Smelters' Walk is a route suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, on level or gently sloping surfaced paths. Two miles long, it is our shortest walk, all on surfaced paths and mainly level, with some very mild slopes in one or two areas.

Wildlife hide at Fineshade Wood - Take a short detour from the Dales Wood trail and you will stumble across a secluded haven for wildlife enthusiasts.
