We have a vision to care for our world, we are an Eco Church, but for us it’s more than a label, its reality. We care about our world, for our community, and each other.
In 2021 we started our community garden to engage with our neighbours through the process of growing food in a space that is peaceful, safe, and beautiful. Rochester Riverside Community Fund provided a small grant in 2023 that provided some much need tools, some plants, a small shed and other materials and the garden in now in full operation.
Our aim is a dedicated green space in the middle of busy urban area, designed to promote and support wildlife with appropriate planting and commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
Housing development around our site over the last few decades has created a new and vibrant community in the middle of Rochester. Sadly, most of these new homes are blocks of flats and many of our neighbours have no substantial outdoor space or even a small garden to enjoy.
We are dedicated to serving our diverse community, so our plan is to reshape parts of the site to allow easy wheelchair access with raised beds and seating areas for the disabled, the elderly and frail members of our community to be included.
A longer-term vision is to see local school children to take part in workshops in our garden on growing food, building bee and insect hotels, frog and toad hides, building nest boxes and also give them hands on experience of working with plants.
We have already done the groundwork and the garden is flourishing and we have invited our local community into our garden to jointly grow and enjoy this green space in the heart of Rochester.
All Welcome
