Action For Autism

‘Action For Autism’ is a weekly well-being focused Autism Movement Therapy® session for young people aged 11- 16 with autism and/or related differences led by certified and experienced professional practitioners.

We have successfully delivered our 'Action for Autism' projects for over five years and it has made a difference to so many young people.  The current project is aimed at young Autistic people aged 11 - 16 years (with or without diagnosis) and the sessions are held on a Wednesday afternoon (term-time only) between 4.30 and 5.30 p.m.

Our 'Action for Autism' project returned in October 2023 thanks to funding received from Wandsworth Council as part of the Arts for Health and Wellbeing Fund. This funding meant that would could provide this Community Class until the beginning of February 2024. It was evident from the participants that this project was essential to them, so we were delighted when we were successful in receiving further funding from Wandsworth Grant Fund, which has secured the sessions for a further year, until the end of February 2025.

The sessions include learning dance sequences and playing interactive games that encourage creative and social collaboration, finishing with a cool-down based on mindfulness and self-regulation techniques.

Testimonials

"It was great to watch my son’s progress each week. He has become part of the group with the help of the welcoming atmosphere created by all the MovementWorks Team. Being part of the group encourages him also to be part of his class and overcome his shyness" Parent - Action for Autism Participant

"I have learned new skills such as dancing and this has helped me become more confident. I have also started climbing and got a membership at a climbing centre" Action for Autism Participant

" Thanks to this project, my daughter is more open to engage with other people, she has improved at school, being more open to teachers and she is more aware of her problems and can now ask for help if needed. At home, she is better at homework and can focus on times scales so now understands how her work can be done on time. She is more calm now and enjoys her time with Ali and Hilary at the weekly sessions - she has a great time! This sessions are so important for my child to be calm and happy." Parent - Action for Autism Participant.
