Starting 25th January in Roehampton (Eastwood Children & Family Centre) free 10-week group singing programme for new mothers experiencing symptoms of or with a diagnosis of postnatal depression with babies aged 0-9 months.
Roehampton (Eastwood) 10:30-11:30 Thursdays from 25th January
Breathe Melodies for Mums is based on research by the Royal College of Music and Imperial College London and follows a logic model that has proven that engaging in weekly singing classes:
- Reduces stress and enhances wellbeing amongst women with PND
- Connects women in the same situation, reducing social isolation and enhancing social support networks
- Supports mother-infant bonding
- Increases self-esteem and confidence through the acquisition of a new skill
- Provides active singing ‘tools’ for calming babies, helping mothers to feel more in control and capable
Participation is free and music leads choose culturally diverse songs, in a range of different languages, ensuring the programme is accessible and welcoming for all.
