Information, Advice and Support for Unpaid Carers

Carers First provides free, practical, and emotional support for unpaid carers across several regions in England. If you look after someone who is ill, disabled, frail, or has additional needs, Carers First is here to help you navigate your caring role and improve your wellbeing.

We offer a wide range of services, including:

  • One-to-one support for carers, including young carers and young adult carers.
  • Online guidance on topics such as carer's assessments, end of life care, everyday tasks, financial support, legal matters, self-care, planning ahead, support entitlements, working and caring, and hospital discharge.
  • Local support in Croydon, Essex, Haringey, Lincolnshire, Medway, Merton, Southend-on-Sea, and Waltham Forest.
  • Specialist advice for carers supporting people with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, autism, sensory conditions, and addictions.
  • Courses and resources such as the Caring Confidently course to help you build resilience and develop strategies for your caring role.
  • Days Out Directory for free or discounted entry to local attractions, parks, museums, and more.

We also provide opportunities for carers to connect with others, share their stories, and access practical tips through our blog and newsletter.

How to access support:

  • If you live in one of our supported areas, you can register with us or be referred by a professional.
  • If you live outside these areas, we recommend using the Carers Trust directory to find support near you.

All services are free of charge.
