Berkshire Vision

We provide vital practical and friendly support, sport and activities to visually impaired children and adults, and their families in Berkshire. Helping to develop confidence and live independent lives safely.

Our services:

Sight Loss Support:
Our sightloss support officers can work with you to assess your needs and to agree a support plan. This may include aids and adaptations to help with every day tasks, support with technology, checking for benefit allowances, getting you out and about, being socially or physically active.

Telephone Befriending:

Berkshire Vision are looking for more telephone befriending volunteers.

Being visually impaired makes social distancing extremely difficult, returning to normal activities is not an option for some.

The telephone befriending service has had a significant impact on our Members’ lives and the requests to continue the service post-pandemic from Members and volunteers alike has been overwhelming. If you can spare an hour once or twice a week to call one of our members, to have a chat, you will discover how rewarding it is to build a new friendship and help them feel less isolated.

Children and family support:
We also support friends and families, including parents and siblings of the person affected by sight loss.

18-35 plus social group:
This group was set up to support young adults with their transition into adulthood. Regular get-togethers include pub visits, meals out and concerts.

Activities
Our activities programme is designed to encourage and maximise getting out into the community. Activities provide access to entertainment and leisure activities most of us take for granted and there's something for everyone, from boat trips, walks with a pub lunch, theatre trips, tandem cycling, fishing and lots more for all ages and abilities. We also have a wide range of remote activities, catering for those who cannot get out so easily. These include quize, wine tasting, book club, history talks. The list goes on.

Resources:
Our office is equipped with resources that can help with lots of things when you've lost your sight, from reading the paper to safely making a cup of tea. Book an appointment to pop by and find out more and try them out or contact us if you need us to bring them to you. We can also refer and signpost you to our partners including RNIB and Guide Dogs.
