Dementia Involvement Group - Leicester
Verified service

Do you have first-hand experience of dementia? Help shape our work through involvement and use your experiences to ensure everything we do reflects the needs of people affected by dementia.

The 'Inn Crowd' Group is part of Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Voice. “Dementia Voice Local Groups are groups of people living with or affected by dementia who influence Alzheimer's Society's and other organisations' work. They do this by sharing their personal experiences of dementia, knowledge and skills to shape a wide range of projects and topics.

Your experience can help us to understand what it’s like to live with dementia. Your insights as well as your knowledge and skills, can help us to get it right for everyone affected by dementia, both now and in the future.

The group offers elements of peer support, companionship and free advice, signposting and referrals from your local Dementia Adviser as well as complimentary refreshments.

The group currently meets once monthly, on the third Friday of the month, from 11-12.30pm. This group is for people living with dementia and their carer’s. People are welcome to attend individually or may attend with support from a carer or loved one.

Recent projects the group have been involved in have included:

1. Co-creating and co-producing the Alzheimer's Society's Forget-Me-Not Festival

2. Supporting local sports clubs to become dementia friendly

3. Collaborative working with other local organisations including AGEUK, LOROS, Admiral Nurses and the Memory Clinic to improve experiences for people affected by dementia

4. New and upcoming technology reviews and guidance including RecreoVR

5. Reviewing the impact of the cost of living and what can be done to support people with a diagnosis of dementia

“Involvement is my way of trying to make it right for others. It helps me to keep moving. When I’m asked back time and time again it makes me feel valued. It gives me a purpose to get out of bed in the morning".

"Being a part of this group has helped to change my life post-diagnosis. There is a point to my life, I can still make a difference. My intellect isn’t as damaged as I had thought".
