Repair Cafes pair up people who have broken items with skilled volunteers who enjoy repairing things. These events bring together community members to help fix broken or damaged items, prolonging their useful life and reducing waste.
Why attend a Repair Cafe?
- Your treasured items avoid going to landfill, helping tackle climate change.
- Repair Cafes foster community spirit, sharing ideas and exchanging skills.
- Repairing things instead of replacing them saves you money.
What to expect:
- Events are held at various locations every few months. Check local social media or the Cambridgeshire Repair Cafe Network for upcoming dates.
- Book ahead if possible, as slots can fill up quickly.
- Volunteers offer repairs for electricals, textiles, carpentry, and mechanical items.
- On arrival, you'll be signed in and directed to the right repair station. Enjoy a hot drink and chat with volunteers while your item is being fixed—there's a chance to learn new skills too!
Cost: It is free to attend, but a suggested donation of £5 per item helps cover venue hire, refreshments, and materials.
Volunteering: If you have repair skills to offer, you can register your interest via the Volunteer Cambs platform or the Cambridge Carbon Footprint website.
