Eskdale Mill - Watermill volunteers

Would you like to work in the beautiful Eskdale? Would you like to learn new skills? Would you like to spend quality time working as part of a small team? Can you provide 1-2 days per fortnight?

For those that would like a front-of house role, visitor stewards, receptionists and waterwheel operatives are needed to support our visitor services here at Eskdale Mill.

We also require practical help within the gardens and grounds and people to carry out regular maintenance of our buildings, exhibitions, historical collections and milling machinery. We understand that not everyone wants to interact directly with our visitors and roles are available providing crucial background support.

  • You will find volunteering with us to be a rewarding experience working within a small historical complex and idyllic grounds dating back to the 1500’s.
  • You will make our visitors’ experience that extra bit special and help to keep our wheels running smoothly.
  • You will get to carry out a range of transferable skills and gain valuable experience whilst working as part of a friendly team.
  • You will gain opportunities to develop existing skills and receive further relevant training.
  • You will gain confidence and improve your own mental and physical health
  • You can further your own career prospects and/or ambitions whilst helping to support a special facility that couldn’t operate without volunteer help.

Travel support is provided plus all required training, tools and equipment. Refreshments and friendly atmosphere also on offer.

Service access criteria: People willing to work in the countryside as part of a team with people of all ages and backgrounds.
