VIP Companionship for Older People helps prevent social isolation among older adults living alone in South Cambridgeshire. Volunteer companions are matched with older people for monthly get-togethers and outings, offering friendship and support.
Why join?
- Helping others feels good and makes a real difference.
- Friendships flourish over shared interests and activities.
- You’ll be giving back to your local community.
Volunteers and VIPs (Very Important/Independent Persons) connect through activities such as going to the cinema, shopping trips, football matches, or simply enjoying afternoon tea at a garden centre. If your VIP is tired, you might just sit together and watch TV, sharing companionship in a relaxed setting.
How it works:
- Volunteers are matched with older people who live nearby and share similar interests.
- Flexible time commitment – typically one outing or visit per month.
- Informal interview and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check required.
- All travel and outing expenses are agreed in advance and covered by the charity.
If you’d like to find out more, contact Maddy (the founder) for a friendly chat about volunteering.
