We are a social group for the over 55s to come have a chat with like-minded individuals over a tea and cake.
WHO ARE WE?
Tea Cakes and Chat is run by myself, Lauren, and my nan, Sylvia Bellamy, to help those who are on their own be able to come out and be social for a few hours a month. After a conversation with my nan, who mentioned she didn't like being on her own when my grandad went out, and various other people who relied on partners. I looked at the different events in the area of what we could pull together to help her and others meet new people and be creative in the process. I realised there was a gap as a lot of the groups were aimed at an older generation or those with conditions, however, those who may have taken an early retirement or have been looking after children could also be feeling the same way as my nan did. Therefore, I decided rather than try to find the perfect group for my nan, I would create one for her.
WHAT DO WE DO?
The group is for over 55s to socialise, participate in activities and encourage those on their own to come along and meet others; with a target audience of those who may be on their own, recently retired and looking for activities, or just want to meet new people and socialise in a friendly and informal setting. Anyone is welcome, and everyone is very friendly and accommodating. We hold a whole range of activities, from informative chats from the fire brigade, terrarium making and arts and crafts.
