The Carers Centre LeicesterShire & Rutland

We are a well known local charity, dedicated to supporting unpaid carers across the diverse populations and communities of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Whether carers are new to caring and don't know where to start or have been caring long-term are struggling to cope or have a particular need or question, we have services that can help.

Services offered are:-​

  • An advice and information helpline – office hours Monday - Friday, to answer any query related to caring (this is open to carers as well as professionals)
  • Self-advocacy and support groups - these are known as our 'Together We Care Groups' 
  • Caring for Carers project - 1-1 support sessions for carers whose well-being/mental health has been impacted by caring
  • Mental health and well-being support/activities - such as our 'Be Well Care Well' group, Caring for Carers project 
  • Respite activities and social groups/events - Crafty Carers group, Creative Writing/Poetry Pharmacy Workshops as well as one off social activities and events
  • Training & information workshops - these include workshops such as Wills and Trusts, Lasting Power of Attorney
  • Volunteering service - opportunities to develop skills through a number of volunteering opportunities

At our 'Together We Care' Groups carers can:

  • Meet with other carers/parent carers to share experiences and ideas 
  • Find out about their rights and entitlements as an unpaid carer
  • Gain skills to help them get the services they need for themselves and the person they care for
  • Understand how to manage stress and cope with difficult situations
  • Help to make decisions about services for carers

 These groups are offered at various venues across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and are online as well as in person.


'Caring for Carers' project (currently only available to carers in Leicester City and Rutland)

Our 'Caring for Carers' project provides dedicated one-to-one mental health and wellbeing support for unpaid carers. Carers receiving support through this project will:

  • Have the opportunity to take time out from their caring situation to explore which aspects of it are affecting their well-being/mental health
  • Be able to access to information advice and guidance to ensure they are receiving support they are entitled to as carers
  • Have the opportunity to learn new tips and techniques to deal with the stresses of caring and to practice applying these to their own situation with the support of the Carer Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker
