We aim to ensure that people with a learning disability are valued members of the community with equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities.
Hastings & Bexhill Mencap Society is a local self-funding charity registered with the charity commission and affiliated to Royal Mencap.
The society provides a day service (Open Door), residential home (Westwood), arts project (Active Arts), and social clubs for adults with learning disabilities.
Most of our funding is through our charity shop in Kings Road, St Leonards on Sea. The Society has been supporting local people with a learning disability and their families and carers for nearly 60 years.
We offer a network of support for parents and carers within the Society. We hold monthly carers lunches and an annual carers outing.
The society depends on volunteers to help to run the clubs, charity shop and help on outings and with funding. If you can spare a couple of hours a week and would like to volunteer with us we would be very happy to hear from you, please contact us.
The society is run by a board of trustees, known as the Executive Committee. This committee is responsible for the services run by Hastings & Bexhill Mencap Society.
