English courses

Good English skills are essential for everyday life

Developing these skills will not only make life easier, they can help you get a better job, progress in your career, open up opportunities for further education and training, or enable you to support your children with homework.

At Learn Devon we offer Functional Skills levels (Entry Level up to Level 2) as well as GCSE English language courses. Our Functional Skills, or ‘Improve your’ courses, welcome learners at all levels and are open for enrolment at any time during the year. Our GCSE courses begin strictly in September and end in June during the following year. We also run GCSE preparatory courses in the spring and autumn to help brush up on skills before joining a GCSE course in September.

By joining one of our Improve your English courses you can:

  • Improve your reading, writing, grammar and communication skills
  • Gain qualifications (Functional Skills up to Level 2 and GCSE)
  • Gain the skills to support your children with homework
  • Improve your wellbeing and confidence
  • Create new opportunities at work and for further training and education

Our groups are small and welcoming with no more than 12 learners per class. Our tutors are friendly, patient and passionate about helping our learners gain English skills. They work with our learning support assistants who are at hand to help you with any learning difficulties. Using a tailored learning plan our tutors will provide you with feedback to help you achieve your learning goals.

To join one of our Improve your English or GCSE English courses you will need to fill in our contact form to arrange a call back from our team. Alternatively, you can call your nearest centre at your convenience. During the call our friendly team will arrange an initial skills check appointment for you with one of our learning support co-ordinators. During your appointment you will be able to decide whether joining one of our courses is the right thing for you. We will also be able to get an understanding of your English skills level and ensure you are joining the right course.
