'British Ugandan Asians at 50' Exhibition at Exeter Library 5th to 30th March 2023

British Ugandan Asians at 50 Exhibition at Exeter Library 5th to 30th March 2023

This is a free exhibition: In 1972, General Idi Amin gave just 90 days' notice to 70,000 Asians living in Uganda, to leave the country.  Families were permitted to take just £55, plus 1 suitcase per individual.  All properties owned by Asians were confiscated by the government, with no compensation.  Of these, 28,200 held British passports, so came to the UK.

This touring exhibition will tell the stories of these people, and those that helped here in the UK.  This free exhibition will be visiting London, York, Manchester, and Exeter Library, and we are delighted to be hosting it!
