Youth Theatre

Green Shoes Arts has a thriving youth theatre of energetic, diverse, committed young people. We meet every Wednesday from 4.30 to 6.00 to play games, practice drama skills, make friends, and create theatre. We would welcome referrals of young people aged 13-18, who would be prepared to actively participate in a positive, energetic atmosphere.

This group would be very helpful for young people who are experiencing challenges in terms of a lack of confidence, difficulty in making friends, low self-esteem, low levels of happiness, and with anxiety. This might be especially effective for young people with social or emotional challenges or low level mental health issues. A recent survey of youth theatre members showed that:

66.7% said that their self-perception of worthiness had increased
33.3% said that their self-perception of happiness had increased
66.7% said that their self-perception of anxiety had decreased
No respondents reported a negative result in any of these categories

No previous experience in drama is necessary, although in order to participate in the youth theatre, we require the following from every member:

Engage in every activity to the best of their ability
Bring a positive attitude and spirit
Be kind and generous to each other
Treat everyone with the respect they deserve
Have some interest in drama, acting, or performance

Service access criteria: Young people with additional needs or learning difficulties are welcome, although we would require a conversation with the relevant member of their care team prior to attendance to determine if they would be required to bring a suitable support worker with them. We welcome everyone, although we may not always have the skills or capacity to support those with more complex needs.
