Caring for Carers

Caring for Carers project will provide dedicated mental health and wellbeing support for unpaid carers through partnership working with community organisations and venues in small groups and/or 1-2-1 sessions in appropriate venues.

The Carer Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker, will provide unpaid carers with immediate and ongoing support with their own mental health needs, so that unpaid carers can:-

• Improve their own mental health and wellbeing  
• Reduce their stress and anxiety as well as the need for medical and/or crisis intervention
• Improve family relationships through holistic approaches from a ‘joined up’ service for both those caring for people with mental health needs as well as those they care for
• Reduce the loneliness and isolation they feel by helping them to develop personal and professional networks with other carers and organisations
• Increase understanding of the importance of keeping a focus on their own wellbeing
• Recognise existing support and skills whilst developing individualised coping strategies whilst caring 
• Increase their knowledge of additional health and support services as well as their understanding of when, where and how services should be accessed
• Improved self-worth and confidence to continue caring
