Helping children who struggle to read/raising literacy standards

Assisting Berkshire Children to read (ABC to read) recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers to provide one-to-one mentoring of primary school children (ages 5 to 11) throughout Berkshire  who are struggling to read. ABC to read was established and registered with the Charity Commission in 2004. Every year the hundreds of pupils we work with discover the pleasure of reading and gain a crucial skill for at school and beyond. ABC to read specifically assist children not entitled to individual help through statutory funding, with a focus on children from disadvantaged backgrounds and schools in deprived areas.

The charity also deliver workshops to students so they can support their peers and gain leadership skills, school's own parent helpers and parents themselves to give everyone the confidence to help children who struggle to read
