Samaritans Tamworth

Tamworth Samaritans is a local branch of the Samaritans, run entirely by dedicated volunteers. We provide a free, confidential 24-hour helpline for anyone who is upset, troubled, or feeling suicidal. Our service is available to people in Tamworth, Lichfield, Burton, and the surrounding areas.

How we can help:

  • Listening service: Our helpline is open 24/7, offering a safe space to talk about whatever is troubling you. You can call us for free at any time.
  • Schools outreach: We visit local schools in Tamworth and Lichfield to talk with young people about supporting each other through difficult times.
  • Prisons outreach: We train and support prisoners at Swinfen HMP/YOI to become Listeners, so they can provide peer support to young offenders who are struggling.

Our volunteers are always here to listen via phone and email. We have been serving the community since 1976 and currently have around 80 volunteers. In the last year, we supported nearly 10,000 callers and responded to over 900 emails.

Community outreach: We actively engage with the local community, including visits to Tamworth Rail Station for awareness campaigns and participation in local charity and volunteer events. Our prison outreach helps reduce the risk of suicide and self-harm among young offenders.

Accessibility: Please note that our office is located on the second floor of the Manor House and is not accessible for wheelchair users or those who find it difficult to use stairs. However, our helpline and email support are available to all.

Support and donations: We are an independent charity and rely entirely on donations from the public, businesses, and other organisations. Your support helps us continue to be there for those who need us most.

Contact us any time if you need someone to listen. You are not alone.
