WHO ARE WE?
Initially set up in 2006, known then as the Burton Diabetes Support Group, Had the full support of Diabetes UK Midlands and East and in 2011/12 became known as the Burton Diabetes UK Group. We are a local support group for people living with diabetes, their families, partners, carers, and anybody interested in diabetes.
In December 2019, we had a relaunch and became known as the East Staffordshire and Surrounds Diabetes UK Patient Network. This was to remove "geographical boundaries" and make the network available to anyone who wished to join the network.
Since that time we have increased our work with Diabetes UK, GPs, Nurses, Pharmacists, other partners, and the UHDB Trust. This has assisted in providing a structured Diabetes Patient Network of care for people with diabetes and those family members, friends, and carers who offer their support.
Currently, meetings are held virtually, via Zoom, every six weeks, and where possible, both an annual public event and a social event are held.
WIDER ASPECTS
We also have representation in the East Staffordshire District Patient Engagement Group and many other community-based organisations. In May 2022, the network became a member of Support Staffordshire which assists in reaching out to all communities. The current Chair also sits on various Health organisations to ensure diabetes care is high on the agenda. Having this presence helps the network to achieve its overall aim which is:
"To enable people to have a voice in their diabetes care"

In 2025, our face-to-face meetings will be as follows:
1. St Editha's, 29 Church Street, Tamworth.
The meetings are bi-monthly on a Wednesday morning, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
The dates are: 5th February, 9th April, 4th June, 6th August, 8th October and, 10th December
2. The HUB St Mary's Market Place Lichfield.
The meetings are bi-monthly on a Wednesday afternoon, between 2pm and 4pm.
The dates are: 5th February, 9th April, 4th June, 6th August, 8th October and, 10th December
3. MHA Burntwood.
The meetings are bi-monthly on a Thursday morning, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
The dates are: 6th February, 10th April, 5th June, 7th August, 9th October and, 11th December
4. Waitrose Community Room, Waitrose, Uttoxeter.
The meetings are bi-monthly on a Thursday afternoon, between 2pm and 4pm.
The dates are: 6th February, 10th April, 5th June, 7th August, 9th October and, 11th December
5. Burton Library, Burton.
The meetings are bi-monthly on a Tuesday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.
The dates are: February 4th, April 8th, June 3rd, August 5th, October 7th and, December 9th
Virtual meetings are also held, via Zoom, and these are on the following Thursday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm
