Creative textile craft sessions for adults who are experiencing mild-moderate mental health difficulties, low wellbeing, feelings of isolation or loneliness. Each week participants will be supported to try different textile crafts, learn new skills & develop & build on existing skills. Participants will create items for themselves or as gifts for others & will also have the opportunity to contribute to community yarn bomb displays & random acts of kindness. The programme will be delivered by mental health 1st aid trained & community arts practitioners, Mel Charnock & Natalie Smith, the founders & organisers of Cosby Yarn Bomb & Cosby Crafters.
Aims & Outcomes
The programme will integrate 3 important aspects to support wellbeing
-The therapeutic benefits of creative arts & crafts
-The social benefits of being part of a group
-The wider, ongoing benefits of participating in a collaborative community project & belonging to an established community group.
The programme is intended to improve self esteem, confidence & wellbeing, alongside nurturing social connections, community participation, a sense of purpose & pride. Participants will also gain an understanding of how creative activities can support good mental health & will benefit from visits from mental health & community support services offering a range of therapeutic & practical support & advice.
A small supported group - max of 18 people attending weekly
Suggested voluntary donation (max £3 per week)
Every Friday - 10-12.30pm
Programme length - ongoing
Adults - 18+ Experiencing feelings of low wellbeing/isolation &/or mild-moderate mental health difficulties. Participants do not need to have any existing textile skills or experience, all aspects of the programme are accessible to complete beginners. However, participants will need an average level of manual strength and dexterity. The programme would be best suited to participants who enjoy creative arts, are interested in having a go at textile crafts or have enjoyed creative activities or textiles in the past. This is not a drop in group - regular weekly attendance is required (we understand illness/mental health difficulties may prevent this from time to time & we can be flexible with this)
