A six week indoor pre-Nordic walking course for beginners with long term health conditions, such as Parkinson's, osteoporosis, arthritis, COPD etc.
Six one hour weekly sessions held inside Scraptoft Hub. Starting Wednesday, 14th February 1- 2 pm. Cost per session £3. Booking essential as spaces are limited. Carers can come along for free.
Each session will contain short periods of gentle seated and/or standing physical activity using the special Nordic walking poles (and other equipment) along with time to chat and form a group of people with long term health conditions that understand and motivate each other.
The six week course will build week on week to provide a variety of seated exercises to mobilise feet, ankles, knees, hands, wrists, arms, upper torso that can be continued at home and increase the amount of movement participants achieve per week. Zoom sessions could be made available if participants want to stay connected between sessions.
The weekly sessions at The Hub will gradually introduce (in a safe environment) working with the Nordic poles to aid posture, mobility, balance, endurance and strength when walking.
The goal by the end of the six weeks would be to take part in short, outdoor walks around The Hub and for there to then be an outdoor Nordic walking session each week for the group to continue to meet, take part in a social exercise group and further improve their Nordic walking whilst having fun and enjoyment!
