Chances for Children grants

Chances for Children grants from Buttle UK offer individually tailored support of up to £2,400 for children and young people who have experienced a crisis that has had a significant and lasting impact on their wellbeing and educational engagement.

These grants fund items and activities designed to improve wellbeing and help children and young people re-engage with education and learning. Each grant is tailored to the specific needs of the child or young person, following a full assessment by a frontline professional.

  • Who can apply? Applications must be made by frontline professionals working for a registered charity, housing association, or public sector organisation. The professional must have assessed the child’s or young person’s needs and carried out at least one home visit (optional for schools and colleges).
  • Who is eligible? Children aged 2–18 (including 18-year-olds) living with a parent/carer, or young people aged 20 and under living independently with little or no family support. Applicants must have experienced a recent crisis (such as abuse, domestic violence, bereavement, or other traumatic events) that has significantly affected their wellbeing and education. The child or young person must be accessing at least 12 hours of education or training per week and living on a low income (usually eligible for Universal Credit).
  • What crises are supported? Physical or sexual abuse, emotional abuse or neglect, domestic abuse, violence/bullying/exploitation, estrangement from parents, end of life care for a family member, bereavement, or sudden traumatic incidents.
  • What is funded? Packages may include essential items and activities that support emotional and educational needs, such as technology for learning, clothing, therapy, or extracurricular activities. All applications must demonstrate how the grant will address the child’s or young person’s needs and fit with other support in place.
  • How to apply? Read the full criteria and eligibility guide before applying. Applications are reviewed promptly, often within 3 working days, but may take longer if information is incomplete.
