The Music Man Project Kent offers inclusive music education and performance opportunities for people with learning disabilities across Medway (Gillingham and Wigmore), Maidstone, and Tonbridge. Since launching in 2017, the project has grown from 12 members to running sessions four days a week, creating a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to shine.
Led by qualified teachers and musicians with extensive experience in the SEN sector, and supported by dedicated volunteers, MMP Kent is described as a ‘big musical family’ where members develop friendships, grow in confidence, and find a place to belong. The sessions are designed to bring out the best in each performer, providing a platform for people with learning disabilities to showcase their talents and build self-esteem.
Session Details:
- Monday: 11:00am–12:30pm & 1:30pm–3:00pm at St. Matthew’s Community Centre, Drewery Drive, Wigmore ME8 0PD (£6 per session)
- All day Music School option: 10:00am–3:00pm (£25 per day)
- Tuesday: 11:00am–12:30pm & 1:30pm–3:00pm at The Salvation Army, Green Street, Gillingham ME7 1XA (£6 per session)
- Wednesday: 11:00am–12:30pm at Nexus School, Upper Haysden Lane, Tonbridge TN11 8AA
- Wednesday: 5:00pm–6:00pm Online Zoom Session (contact for code)
- Thursday: 10:30am–12:00pm at The Salvation Army, Union Street, Maidstone ME14 1ED
- Thursday: 6:00pm–7:30pm at St. Matthew’s Community Centre, Drewery Drive, Wigmore ME8 0PD (£6 per session)
Cost: £6 per session or £25 for the all-day Music School option.
Who can join? Everyone is welcome, regardless of ability. The project is especially designed for people with learning disabilities, but all are encouraged to participate and experience the joy of music-making.
