About Nordic Walking and it’s Benefits…
Nordic walking, an outdoor activity that enhances regular walking with the use of specially designed poles, offers a multitude of benefits for people of all ages and fitness levels. Here are some key benefits of Nordic walking:
1. Full Body Workout: Unlike regular walking, Nordic walking involves the use of poles, engaging the upper body muscles along with the legs, providing a full-body workout. This increases muscle strength and endurance in the arms, shoulders, chest, and abdominal muscles.
2. Increased Calorie Burn: By engaging more muscle groups, Nordic walking can increase calorie expenditure by about 20% more than regular walking, making it an efficient activity for weight management and cardiovascular health.
3. Improved Cardiovascular Fitness: It is an effective aerobic exercise that helps improve heart and lung function, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke.
4. Reduced Impact on Joints: The poles used in Nordic walking provide support and can help reduce the impact on knees, hips, and the lower back, making it a suitable exercise for those with joint concerns or arthritis. Its especially good for those about to or have had a new hip or knee.
5. Enhanced Balance and Stability: The use of poles aids in improving balance and stability, which is particularly beneficial for older adults or those with balance issues.
6. Mental Health Benefits: Being an outdoor activity, it provides an opportunity to be in nature, which has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, improving overall mental well-being.
7. Social Activity: Nordic walking can be done in groups, making it a social activity that can help build a sense of community and belonging, further contributing to emotional health.
8. Versatility: It can be practiced in various settings, from city parks to countryside trails, and can be adapted to fit any fitness level, making it a versatile exercise option.
Overall, Nordic walking is a comprehensive exercise that combines physical activity with the enjoyment of the outdoors, offering significant benefits for both physical and mental health.
