Havering Nutrition and dietetics

The Havering Nutrition and Dietetics Service provides expert dietary assessment, advice, and support for adults and children who need special diets as part of their medical treatment. Our team includes HCPC Registered Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants, and Administrators, delivering care in a variety of ways to suit your needs.

How we help:

  • One-to-one consultations via virtual clinics (telephone or video), face-to-face appointments, and group education sessions (subject to inclusion criteria).
  • Assessment and management for dietetic-related conditions for both adults and children who meet our service criteria.
  • Group education sessions for weight reduction (Tier 2 only), pulmonary rehabilitation, and lipid lowering.
  • Structured group education for diabetes, including DAFNE (for adults with type 1 diabetes) and DESMOND (for adults with type 2 diabetes).
  • Appointments available at clinical sites, nursing homes, and home visits for housebound patients.
  • MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool) training for health professionals.

Who can access:

  • Patients with a Havering GP.
  • Referrals accepted from consultants, GP practices, and healthcare professionals (band 5 and above) via single point of access (SPA) by email.

Service exclusions:

  • Parenteral feeding
  • Oncology patients undergoing treatment
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Palliative patients < 3 months from end of life
  • Tier 3 & 4 weight management
  • MUST score < 2 (unless pressure injury, texture modified diet, or COPD)
  • Renal and liver disorders under specialist services
  • Eating disorders including ARFID
  • Paediatric diabetes
  • Paediatric immediate IgE allergies and multiple allergies

Opening times: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm (answerphone service available out of hours).
