Havering Nutrition and Dietetics Service provides one-to-one dietetic assessment and management for adults and children with diet-related conditions. The team, comprising HCPC registered dietitians, dietetic assistants and administrators, delivers care through a mix of virtual clinics (telephone or video), face-to-face clinic appointments at various sites, and home visits for patients who are housebound. The service aims to improve overall health by translating scientific dietary information into practical, personalised plans that fit with medical treatments and daily life.
What we offer:
- Assessment and management for dietetic-related conditions for both adults and children that meet the service criteria.
- Group Education Sessions for weight-reducing patients (Tier 2 weight management service only), pulmonary rehabilitation sessions, and lipid-lowering education sessions.
- Structured education for diabetes: Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating (DAFNE) for adults with type 1 diabetes; DESMOND for adults with type 2 diabetes.
- Appointments at various clinical sites; home visits available for housebound patients.
- MUST training for health professionals.
What we can't do:
- Parenteral feeding; Oncology patients undergoing treatment; Gestational diabetes; Palliative patients within 3 months of end of life; Tier 3 & 4 weight management; Malnutrition MUST score limitations and related conditions as specified by the service.
Access and referrals:
- GP referrals for EMIS practices should be submitted via Elemental; urgent referrals follow standard pathways. Referrals are accepted for patients with a Havering GP.
- Referrals are via Single Point of Access (SPA) by email from consultants, GP practices and health care professionals (band 5 and above).
