Supported Self Help Programme

The Supported Self-Help Programme from Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing and Hounslow Mind is designed to give you practical skills to understand, protect, and improve your mental health. Please note: This service is no longer accepting referrals.

This early intervention programme offers six one-to-one sessions for adults who are beginning to experience symptoms of worsening mental health. While it is not a counselling service, our trained Practitioners use counselling-based skills and a range of supportive tools, including elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Who is it for?

  • Adults aged 18 and over
  • Self-referral (no need for a GP referral)
  • People experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems
  • Residents, workers, or those GP-registered in Hammersmith, Fulham, Ealing, or Hounslow
  • No formal mental health diagnosis required

You can access this programme even if you are on a waiting list for other mental health support, but you cannot use it if you are currently receiving counselling or therapy elsewhere.

How does it work?

  • Initial 40-minute assessment session with a Practitioner
  • Five intervention sessions (20 minutes each)
  • Optional signposting session (20 minutes)

Sessions are delivered over the phone or via video call to fit around your schedule. Each week, you will discuss your progress, receive support, and be provided with resources and materials to help you manage your journey. Topics covered may include:

  • Anxiety & Panic Attacks
  • Low mood and Depression
  • Low Self-esteem
  • Managing stress
  • Loneliness and feeling lonely
  • Managing anger
  • Coping with grief and loss
  • Understanding menopause

Resources and techniques offered include thought diaries, mindfulness, controlled breathing, body scans, SMART goals, coping behaviours, and tips to boost your mood.

At the end of the programme, you will review your progress and discuss next steps, including other services or activities that may support your ongoing wellbeing.

If you have questions about the programme, you can contact the team at ssh@hfehmind.org.uk.
