Havering Children's Centres

Children’s centres in Havering are FREE to all families with a child aged under five who live in the borough. If you are expecting a baby or have children aged 0-5 years, your local Children’s Centre is able to provide support, advice and access to services and activities delivered as part of the Children’s Centres activity programme.    

You must live in the borough and be registered to use our children’s centres - if you haven’t registered yet, you can register at your local centre using our online form.

Our current programme includes:

  • Musical Jelly Beans for 0-5 year olds
  • Stay and Plays for 0-5 year olds
  • Stay and Plays for 0-12 months
  • Dads Club
  • Butterflies for 0-2 year olds - A peer support group for families who are experiencing low mood, depression and anxiety during pregnancy or following the birth of their baby. For more information or to speak to an Early Years Practitioner before attending, please email: Butterflies@havering.gov.uk
  • Starting Solid Food Workshop - A 1 ½ hour virtual workshop looking at starting and progressing with solid foods with your baby.
  • Preparing for baby - A virtual 2-hour session for expectant parents with topics including breastfeeding, infant care, managing stress and promoting health and wellbeing during pregnancy.
  • Baby Massage - A 5-week course that offers a wonderful opportunity for you to bond and learn how to communicate with your baby through nurturing touch and massage in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
  • Baby Bookstart Packs for 0-12 months - are available for collection at your local Children’s Centre.

  • Toilet Training - A monthly 1-hour virtual workshop with advice and handy tips on your toddler moving on to use the potty and toilet.
  • Oral Health - A 1-hour virtual workshop delivered by a Dental Nurse to learn how to support your child’s oral health development.
  • Ready Steady Talk (18 months – 2 ½ years) - A 5-week course with a weekly 45-minute session to promote and encourage children’s early language and communication skills. Referral only via a Health Visitor.
  • Wellbeing for Mothers and Babies course - In this 5-week course, there are weekly themes all centring on improving wellbeing for both mum and baby. You will learn various relaxation, self-massage, guided breathing and gentle movement techniques plus a simple back massage. 
  • Incredible Years Babies (0-8 months) In-person - The Incredible Years Baby is a 10-week programme for parents and carers and their babies. It gives parents information about how babies grow and develop and how they can support their baby in the early months of their life, including communicating with baby, safety and where to get advice and support.
  • Incredible Years Toddler (1-5 years) –In-person - The Incredible Years Toddler programme provides parents with the tools and strategies to support their child’s behaviour as they grow and develop.
  • HENRY (0-5 Years) - (Health Exercise & Nutrition for The Really Young) - Virtual - The HENRY group programme provides families with children up to age 5 everything that’s needed to help little ones get off to a great start. Join an interactive session each week with local families to explore topics including parenting confidence, what children and the family eat and enjoying life as a family.
