Better Healthwise at Ulverston Leisure Centre offers a supportive, welcoming environment for anyone looking to become more physically active, especially those living with long-term health conditions. Our Healthwise activity referral scheme is designed to help you stay fit and healthy, whether you need support managing a health condition or simply want expert guidance to improve your wellbeing.

What we offer:

  • Physical Activity on Referral Scheme (PARS): A comprehensive 12-week programme featuring one-to-one assessments, individually tailored activity plans, and behaviour change support for lasting impact.
  • Gentle Exercise Classes: Choose from aqua classes, chair-based aerobics, and gentle circuits – all designed to help you achieve your activity goals, regardless of your starting point.
  • ESCAPE PAIN Courses: In partnership with the NHS, we deliver free Escape Pain Back and Escape Pain Hip and Knee courses for people living with arthritic conditions. These run twice weekly over 6 weeks and are accessible via referral from your health practitioner.

Who can benefit?

  • People living with conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, asthma, circulatory/respiratory diseases, depression/anxiety, and arthritis.
  • Anyone seeking affordable, expert-led support to improve or maintain their health through physical activity.

Please speak with your Healthcare Professional if you are interested in Healthwise as they must refer you. If your Healthcare Professional is not registered with Healthwise then please contact the Better Health Team at your local Better Leisure Centre. If your Healthcare Professional feels you will benefit from Healthwise, they will need to complete a referral form and send it to the Better Health Team who will then be in touch to screen your referral and arrange your Initial Consultation.
