Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST) is a weekly group programme designed for anyone experiencing memory problems, with or without a formal dementia diagnosis. Run by qualified facilitators in a specialist therapy centre, MCST offers a friendly, supportive environment where participants can engage in meaningful and stimulating activities proven to help maintain memory and mental functioning.
Sessions take place at The Avenue Theatre, Sittingbourne and last for two hours. Each session costs £12.00. Please note, this service is only available to people living within Age UK Kent Rivers' catchment area.
- Activities include discussions, word games, quizzes, physical activities, and creative or musical activities.
- MCST focuses on strengthening and maintaining orientation, short- and long-term memory, hearing/sight, focus, attention, concentration, understanding, recognition, language, problem solving, reasoning, and visual/spatial skills.
- Group members benefit from a fun, supportive setting where they can build new friendships and improve confidence.
MCST is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a treatment for people with dementia, and is the only non-drug therapy shown to improve cognition, independence, and wellbeing.
If you are concerned about your memory, want to proactively reduce symptoms, and value independence, MCST could help you. An informal chat, assessment, and free taster session are available to help you decide if this is the right group for you.
