Getting out and about is all about helping you stay active, connected, and involved in your local community. Whether you want to enjoy your favourite activities, go shopping, or simply get out of the house, Derbyshire County Council offers a range of support and services to make it easier.
- Safe Place scheme: If you feel anxious or unsafe when out and about, Safe Places are public buildings like shops, libraries, and doctor's surgeries where you can go for help if you feel lost, scared, or threatened.
- Community Connectors: This service supports people with learning disabilities or autism to develop new skills, join in with local activities, and use community facilities. The service can last up to 12 weeks and may include travel training. You do not need to have an adult care worker or be eligible for funded care to use this service.
- Disability employment service: If you have a disability or long-term health condition, this service can help you find work experience, voluntary work, or paid employment. Support includes job searching, CV preparation, and interview skills.
- Volunteering: Volunteering is a great way to get out, keep busy, help others, and make new friends. There are many volunteering opportunities available, and you can get a Volunteer Passport to help you volunteer with other agencies.
- Transport: Find out if you are eligible for transport funded or provided by adult care to access services such as day opportunities or short breaks. Derbyshire Connect offers transport to shopping destinations and medical appointments for people unable to use conventional buses due to age, disability, or limited public transport in their area.
- Motability scheme: The national Motability scheme provides disabled people with safe, reliable, and affordable cars, powered wheelchairs, or scooters through contract hire or purchase.
