Carer Support

Age Concern North Devon offers dedicated support for carers and those they care for.

Our Carer Support service provides a weekly befriending visit from a trained volunteer to the cared-for person, giving carers a much-needed break. Visits typically last 2-3 hours and include friendly conversation, a cup of tea, looking at old photographs, and playing games.

  • Respite for carers: While our volunteer spends time with the cared-for, carers can take time for themselves, knowing their loved one is in safe hands.
  • Emotional support: Volunteers also offer a listening ear to carers, helping them feel heard and supported.
  • Affordable fees: Visits are charged at £6 per hour, with a 50% discount for recipients of pension credit.
  • Additional respite: Carers can also benefit from breaks when the cared-for attends Age Concern Community Activities.
  • Training and peer support: We offer carer training sessions, such as Dementia Awareness and First Aid, as well as opportunities to connect with other carers for peer support.

Our service is designed to help carers feel less isolated, more supported, and able to take time for themselves.
