The Active Harborough Team here at Harborough District Council support residents in the Harborough District to become more active. Introducing activity into your lifestyle can have significant health benefits including stronger bones and muscles, better mood, improved sleep, increased mobility and better quality of life.
We now know that physical activity is considered safe for those with long term health conditions. You do not need to be referred by a health professional in order to access physical activity. Instead, you will be assessed by a level 3 or 4 exercise specialist who will signpost you to the most appropriate activity.
Here are some examples of the programmes we have on offer.
12 Week Supported Leisure Scheme
Our exercise referral scheme is a 12-week exercise programme in a leisure centre under a trained instructor. This scheme is for people with long term health conditions who want to be active. It covers conditions such as arthritis, hypertension, back pain, stress, anxiety, depression, osteoporosis, asthma, stroke, COPD, diabetes 1&2, Joint replacements, obesity, and Parkinson’s. If you do have any of these conditions, you may well be eligible for the programme. It is a discounted membership in which you would have access to everything in the leisure centre which would normally be £40 monthly but is reduced to £30 monthly. However, this is discounted for 6 months in total. You also will have access to the hydrotherapy pod as part of this membership.
