The Continence Service from Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust offers expert support for adults experiencing bladder, bowel, and pelvic floor symptoms. Our team includes Bladder and Bowel Specialist Nurses, Pelvic Health Physiotherapists, and Assistant Practitioners, all dedicated to improving your quality of life.
We help with:
- Stress urinary incontinence (leakage when laughing, coughing, sneezing, or exertion)
- Urgency and urge urinary incontinence
- Frequent urination and overactive bladder syndrome
- Recurrent urine infections
- Fitting and advice on continence appliances
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Faecal urgency, constipation, and faecal incontinence
- Problems following prostatectomy (including urinary leakage, anal incontinence, erectile dysfunction)
What we offer:
- Comprehensive assessments, including urinalysis and bladder scanning
- Pelvic floor assessment and physiotherapy
- Education sessions and follow-up appointments
- Advice on self-catheterisation, anal irrigation, and medication
- Support for carers and healthcare professionals
- Routine product assessments for NHS continence products (eligibility applies)
- Face-to-face and virtual appointments
How to access:
- Ask your GP or healthcare professional for a referral
- Self-referral is available via our online forms or by contacting us directly
- Phone support is available Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm
Service locations: We serve Ashford, Canterbury and Coastal, South Kent Coast, Thanet, and West Kent areas. Appointments are available at local clinics and hospitals, and virtual appointments are also offered.
Cost: This is a free NHS service. Some continence products may not be fully NHS funded; eligibility is assessed individually.
Additional resources: We provide educational videos, downloadable guides, and recommend the 'Squeezy' app for pelvic floor exercises.
