Every Monday, 6pm - 8pm, we provide a club for adults who are Neurodivergent. This is held at our hub - 16-18 Oxford Street, Workington, CA14 2AH. This is an inclusive club where individuals can meet up and make friends or sit quietly, whatever works best for the individuals.
There are a few activities available eg Pool table, table tennis, crafts, Xbox, or feel free to bring anything you would like to do.
The cost is £3 per person, and parent carers go free, this is so the attendees feel like they are contributing to their club and to society.
There are free hot drinks as there is a small kitchen area, and we sometimes make pizzas, or warm some food up for people to nibble on.
All we ask is that in the first few sessions, we ask parent carers to stay until they feel the individual is confident to stay on their own.
This group is run by Gary Austin, who is himself Autistic and a volunteer for the charity. Gary approached me over 4 years ago and asked if he could set up a group for adults, as there was no support locally. This group has gone from strength to strength and is also welcomed by individuals from other service users. The group is accessible by public transport and is near the train station.
