If you are at risk of homelessness in Newham, our Homelessness Prevention and Advice Service (HPAS) is here to help you stay in your home or find a new place to live.
We understand that facing homelessness can be overwhelming. Our team offers free, independent, and immediate advice to help you resolve your housing situation before it becomes a crisis.
- Support to stay where you are: We can help you negotiate with friends, family, or landlords, assist with rent arrears, and provide benefit advice.
- Help with moving: If staying isn’t possible, we can support you in finding private rented accommodation, negotiate with landlords, and may help with deposits or rent in advance. We also offer guidance on social housing options, including opportunities outside London through the HomefinderUK scheme.
- Personal Housing Plan: We work with you to create a tailored plan, offer mediation, and provide advice on your rights and options.
- Financial and practical support: Access to discretionary housing payments, debt management, and welfare benefits advice.
How to access the service:
- Complete an online application form and submit your documents.
- If you already have an open application, use the Homelessness Enquiry Form to update your case or provide more information.
Temporary accommodation: If you are already in temporary accommodation provided by Newham Council, please contact the Temporary Accommodation Service directly.
Our goal is to prevent homelessness wherever possible and support you every step of the way. Contact us as soon as you are under threat of homelessness for the best chance of support.
