Food Friends - Volunteering in Ashford District
Verified service

Food Friends is a community initiative that connects people who love to cook with neighbours who would appreciate a delicious home-cooked meal, delivered with company and conversation. Our mission is to combat loneliness and isolation in communities through food and friendship.

We match volunteer cooks with local individuals who would benefit from a friendly visit and a shared meal. Most volunteers share an extra portion of their home-cooked food once a week, but the role is flexible—deliveries can be more or less frequent to suit your schedule.

  • How it works: Sign up as a volunteer cook and we’ll match you with a neighbour who enjoys the same type of food as you. You’ll deliver a meal and spend some time chatting, helping to spark meaningful connections.
  • Support: We support you throughout your food friendship, from your first meal delivery to any questions or concerns you may have in the future.
  • Community: Our project spans generations, with volunteers and recipients aged from 14 to 99. We host celebration lunches to bring our community together and celebrate new and lasting friendships.
  • Impact: Over 13,000 meals have been shared so far, reducing food waste and building stronger, more connected communities.

If you know someone who could benefit from a home-cooked meal and friendly company, or if you’d like to volunteer, get in touch today!
