Shropshire Digital Skills Programme

Computer Skills for All is a free digital support programme for Shropshire residents, helping people build confidence and skills to use computers and the internet safely and effectively.

From 2023 to 2026, over 2,000 people will benefit from one-to-one support at friendly, council-funded digital learning hubs across Shropshire. Tech-savvy volunteers offer help in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, making learning enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

Who is eligible?

  • People over 65 years
  • Those living alone
  • Anyone receiving means-tested benefits or on a low income
  • Unpaid carers for friends or family members
  • Anyone receiving paid or unpaid care
  • People with a disability or health condition

What’s included?

  • Free one-to-one digital support at Shropshire Libraries and other local centres
  • Access to free online courses (e.g. Learn My Way, National Careers Service)
  • Limited free devices and internet connectivity for those unable to afford their own
  • Support for people with learning difficulties and visual impairment

Digital support is available at libraries and community centres throughout Shropshire, including Oswestry, Church Stretton, Market Drayton, Cockshutt, Shrewsbury, Wem, Whitchurch, Bishops Castle, and more. For more information, contact your nearest centre or email andrea.miller@shropshire.gov.uk.

Feedback from participants is overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting increased confidence, reduced isolation, and a greater ability to manage everyday tasks online.

Service access criteria:

People most in need can access this free programme, and to be eligible, one or more of the following criteria must apply: 
Be over 65 years 
Live alone 
Be in receipt of a means-tested benefit or on a low income 
Provide unpaid care for a friend or family member who can’t manage without your help 
Receiving paid or unpaid care 
Have a disability or health condition
