SOCOPA is a Leicester-based charity supporting East African refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in the UK. Since 2005, we have helped individuals and families access essential services, including health, education, immigration, and housing.
We offer a welcoming drop-in centre and a range of practical support and advice to help you settle, thrive, and build a new life. Our team is compassionate, experienced, and dedicated to meeting the needs of the Somali and East African community, as well as anyone making a home in Leicester.
- Drop-in advice (Mon-Thurs 10am-2:30pm): Get help with forms, appointments, and accessing local services.
- English language classes (Wed 10am-1pm, Fri 2pm-3:45pm): Improve your language skills for daily life and work.
- Youth engagement & tuition: Activities for young people and families (Sat 2pm-4pm).
- Skills training & employment support: Guidance to help you find work and develop new skills.
- Cultural & social events: Connect with others through regular gatherings, including Sheeko & Shaah sessions for men and women, and annual cultural celebrations.
- Financial support services: Assistance with benefits, Universal Credit, and financial advice.
- Health & education advocacy: Support with school, doctor’s appointments, and navigating health services.
- Digital centre: Help with online applications, E-visa setup, and access to technology.
- Immigration support: Guidance for asylum seekers and refugees, including help with visas and housing.
Our services are free and open to all, with a special focus on supporting those facing hardship, language barriers, or unfamiliarity with UK systems. We are here to help you feel safe, informed, and connected.
