Young Adult Carer Service

Are you a young adult caring for someone? The Young Adult Carers Service from Carers Plus Yorkshire is here to support unpaid carers aged 16–30 who look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health need, or drug/alcohol problem.

We understand that being a young adult carer can be challenging and may impact your emotional and physical health, education, social life, and future opportunities. Our service is designed to help you navigate these challenges and build a positive future around and beyond your caring role.

  • Emotional support tailored to your needs
  • Help to maximise your income
  • Training, learning, and work opportunities
  • Opportunities to meet other young adult carers
  • 1:1 support from specialist workers

We also have specialist workers supporting parent carers, and you can self-refer from age 16+.

Who can access this service?

  • Unpaid carers aged 16–30
  • Those providing practical tasks, emotional support, family management, financial support, physical & personal care, or childcare for siblings
  • Anyone experiencing the impact of caring, such as excessive or inappropriate caring that affects health, education, or social life

Who is the Young Adult Carers Service for?
 
Unpaid Carers aged between 16 - 30 years who:

-Have a significant caring role, including looking after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health need, or drug/alcohol problem.
-Are experiencing an impact of care such as; excessive or inappropriate caring that affects emotional health, physical health, educational achievement, social life and opportunities.
-Provide practical tasks, emotional support, family management, financial support, physical & personal care or childcare for siblings.
