Young Carer Service

The Young Carer Service from Carers Plus Yorkshire supports young people aged 8-18 who have a significant caring role at home.

We understand that being a young carer can be challenging and sometimes isolating. Our friendly and approachable team is here to help you build confidence, resilience, and realise your own potential, while supporting your family as a whole.

Who is this service for?

  • Young people aged 8-18 who look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug/alcohol problem.
  • Young carers whose caring responsibilities impact their emotional or physical health, education, social life, or opportunities.
  • Those providing practical tasks, emotional support, physical/personal care, or childcare for siblings.

  • 1:1 support tailored to your needs
  • Opportunities to meet other young carers
  • Help finding your voice and expressing your experiences
  • Group learning experiences and skill development
  • Whole family support to ensure everyone is cared for

We work closely with schools and community partners to identify and support young carers, helping you balance your caring role with educational achievement and personal growth.

Access is free and confidential. Referrals can be made by young carers, family members, or professionals using our online referral form.

Who is the Young Carers Service for?
 
-Young People aged between 8-18 years who:

-Have a significant caring role, including looking after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem.

-Are experiencing an impact of care such as; excessive or inappropriate caring that affects, emotional health, physical health, educational achievement, social life and opportunities.
Provide practical tasks, emotional support, physical & personal care or childcare for siblings.
