The OUTdoor Swimming as a nature-based Intervention for DEpression (OUTSIDE) study aims to find out if swimming outdoors can reduce symptoms and improve the lives of people experiencing depression and low mood.
We will have FREE outdoor swimming courses, offered as part of the research study, at locations across England. It uses a design called a ‘Randomised, Controlled Trial’ or ‘RCT’.
People can self refer of be referred by a medical professional. All recruitment for the study is done via the website.
Course at Taplow Lake starts late April.
Apply via the website & the Portsmouth University research team will assess each application for suitability.
To take part in the study you must…
Be aged 18 or over.
Currently have symptoms of depression.
Swimming ability – participants need to be able to swim 25m or more.
Have no serious medical conditions that would make open water swimming unsafe for you. This will be determined by a member of our medical team who can review your health history questionnaire.
