The Young Lives Foundation Befriending Programme offers dedicated, long-term support for young people in care across Kent and Medway. Our trained volunteers, known as Independent Visitors, provide consistent friendship, advice, and encouragement to help young people thrive.
What We Do:
- Volunteers commit to visiting a young person once a month for at least two years, building trust and continuity.
- Each young person is carefully matched with a befriender who shares similar interests, ensuring a genuine connection.
- Befrienders support young people in developing social skills, self-esteem, and confidence to try new hobbies and ideas.
- Visits include a wide range of activities and outings, tailored to the young person's preferences and agreed with carers or social workers.
- Our volunteers are positive role models, empowering young people to problem-solve and make choices, and helping them feel less lonely or isolated.
Who Can Access This Service?
- Any eligible looked-after young person placed in Kent or Medway can be referred.
- Referrals are made by carers, social workers, or other professionals via our online referral page.
